HEALING YOGA RETREAT

    In the North Georgia Mountains

Sample Schedule

Join us at the scenic Mountain Laurel Farm for a healing weekend retreat in the North Georgia Mountains. Release emotional and physical tensions and reconnect with your inner peace with a Master Yogi and her Ananda Shakti Five-Body-Healing Program.

Program

This retreat is for all levels and contains various styles of yoga. Raja, or “Royal” Yoga, is used to create awareness of one’s state of mind, calming and bringing thoughts to a point of focus. This is coupled by Pranayama techniques which allow for control of one’s breath, to deepen relaxation and build a sense of flow in the yoga practice. Ananda Shakti is a form of self-exploratory yoga designed to help release mental blocks and help you find your full potential by giving guided Samyamas, or meditations.

Guests at the retreat will have free time on Saturday  to visit the nearby area, or may choose to stay on the farm and enjoy hiking the property or simply relaxing and taking in the quiet beauty.

Wine Tasting

A few local wineries and tasting rooms that are within easy distance of Mountain Laurel Farm

Hiking & Waterfalls

There are hundreds of hiking trails and dozens of waterfalls in the North Georgia mountains. Here are a few of our favorites that are easy to reach from Mountain Laurel Farm (approximate 3 miles).

Dukes Creek Falls – Just off the Richard Russell Scenic Highway through the mountains is a parking area for this trail. An approximately 1 mile trail from the parking area winds through hemlock and rhododendron to an observation deck where you can see the lower falls.

Raven Cliff Falls – Also just off the Richard Russell Scenic Highway is the parking area for Raven Cliffs Falls where an approximately 2.5 mile trail leads to the falls. While the trail does cross several small creeks and switches left then right and undulates up and down, the scenery along the way and the waterfalls are some of the most beautiful in Georgia.

Visit Nearby Helen, GA
For more area information see http://www.helenga.org.

The Alpine town of Helen takes its inspiration from the villages of Germany, complete with the building style of downtown shops and restaurants. But it’s also in the heart of Northeast Georgia, offering travelers outdoor sports like tubing and hiking, along with wine tasting at the many vineyards nearby. The area has both Native American history and an arts community in nearby Sautee Nacoochee.

Tubing

During the warmer months, typically May to September, spend the day floating down the river with outfitters like Helen Tubing & Waterpark and Cool River Tubing, which drop you off and pick you up. They also offer changing rooms, showers, picnic areas and parking.

Mind Escapes

Mind Escapes is a themed escape room with masterful games for all ages. One room features Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson, while another is about a mysterious cabin in the woods.

Ziplining

Zipline is another popular activity, which you can experience with Nacoochee Adventures and American Adventure Park at Unicoi State Park. Multiple courses wind through the surrounding forest.

Babyland General Hospital

In nearby Cleveland, native Xavier Roberts founded the Cabbage Patch Dolls brand. Today, visitors can see where they are “born” at the Babyland General Hospital, equal parts museum and store. Admission is free and celebrity photos cover the walls.

FAQ

If I'm not experienced in Yoga, is this retreat right for me?

Mountain Laurel Farm Yoga Retreats are for all levels of yogis.  One of the reasons we like to keep the number of guests so small is to better personalize the classes and yoga attention placed on each person and taught at all levels. After seeing where each guest is in their yoga practice and level, the classes can be given on what best suits the group. Plus, there is a range of styles and levels taught. The most "advanced" yogi are those who are honest and true with where they are physically and mentally - which can mean holding back and taking it easy when you need rather than over pushing yourself to twist into that advanced pose.

Is this a religious retreat?

We are in no way a religious organization. Some retreats may have a spiritual emphasis but not religious. It can be about finding something, letting something go, gaining balance in life, and enjoying many aspects of the holiday - from the cuisine, scenic walks on the beautiful mountain farm scenery, and new friends!

Can I bring a friend/partner who doesn't want to participate in the yoga classes?

Absolutely! Non-participants are always welcome. All classes are voluntary and there is always plenty of activities (or total relaxation) that can be enjoyed in place of one of the yoga classes.

Is attendance required?

Again, all classes (and activities) are completely voluntary. I always say to guests that the retreat is for whatever you need. So if you need to take it easy one morning, then by all means, do what you need physically and mentally.

What if I'm a single traveller?

Many of our guests come alone. Most tend to relax in the common areas (salons, terraces, pool, etc) when we're not in class or having meals. It's up to you if you prefer to socialize, but it's not required if signing up alone.

How do I sign up for the retreat?

Sign up by using clicking on one of the  "Register Now" button under the ROOMS section above. We have options in the Farmhouse and Cottage. Once you select your desired room, it will be added to your shopping cart, and when you're ready to check out, click to your shopping cart in the upper right hand corner. You will then fill out an information form and payment? We then will send you an official confirmation and welcome email with a disclosure and emergency contact form to fill out and sign, as well as any pertinent travel information you may need.
